Date Night Ideas for You and Your Significant Other

Inspiration

February 13, 2020

Valentine’s Day is rapidly approaching, which means 1. we’ve made it past the eternal month that is January and 2. it’s the season of love. I have always loved the idea of celebrating love, Valentines Day or not so since we’re here, let’s talk date night!

If you’re anything like us, getting out of the house on a day off is an actual accomplishment. Date nights typically consist of dogs, wine and the latest Netflix documentary. But if you’re looking to mix things up and find new adventure with your love, here are some awesome ideas & local recommendations!

Arcade Night

Video games are definitely his thing- but I can get behind a night at the arcade. It’s fun to get a little competitive and geek out on old school games like Pinball and PacMan. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that most arcades are now adult-friendly, hello wine! A couple of our local favorites are The Pyramid Scheme, Dave & Busters, BAM! Entertainment Center

Ice Skating

I’ll be honest, we have yet to do this one. Mostly because it’s been either too warm or too cold (Pure Michigan). But a trip to the rink and some hot cocoa and cuddles to follow sounds like the perfect date night! (Rosa Parks Circle Ice Rink)

Candlelit Dinner at Home + Cooking Together

On our first date together, Thomas and I made sushi rolls! It was the worst sushi I’ve had to date BUT it was a lot of fun making it (he may disagree on that one). Regardless, this is an easy, cheap date night idea that will heat things up. (;

Cooking Class

One of the coolest date nights (in my opinion), will always include getting out of our comforts zones, together. An awesome place to do that? In a cooking class! Although on the pricier side, this makes the perfect date night. Meal included. Check out the local options at Sur La Table or at the Downtown Market. Also a fun option, a cocktail making class. The Ondergrond in Holland puts them on periodically, sign up for their mailing list to find out about the next one HERE.

Sporting Event

Even if you’re not a sports-fanatic, the excited, passionate and care-free atmosphere is definitely worth the while. The Grand Rapids Griffin’s is the perfect date night and conveniently located downtown with so many food options near or, of course there is the $2 hot dog night if you’re into that.

Workout Class

We may be a little biased, but working out together is one of our favorite things to do. Whatever you’re into, or maybe are interested in trying out, there are endless local options that will allow you to take your first class free and many more that are offering Valentines Day specials. Also, hello endorphins!

Massages

Whether it’s in-home or you’re willing to spend the money to get pampered for the day, massages are the most relaxing way to spend some time with your loved one. Pro tip, don’t make plans following- these things will wipe you out for the rest of the day. If you’re planning an at-home spa day, here are some essentials: Mask, bubbles, Epson salt, bath bombs, your favorite relaxing playlist on Spotify & some candles for an added aesthetic.

Brunch Dates (because dinner dates are so overrated)

Mimosas, Bloody Mary bars- need I say more? Forget the late night, over-crowded dinners- brunch is where it’s at, especially in this town! Some of my local favorites: SpeakEZ Lounge, Matchbox Diner, and Social Kitchen.

Escape Room

If you haven’t been to one yet, GO! Grab your s/o and a few of your friends and hit up the best group date spot in town. This date night idea is sure to challenge you mentally and leave you wanting more- can you escape before time runs out?! Here are some of the local spots to check out: The Ruse, The Great Escape Room and Locked Up

Wine + Canvas

I wouldn’t consider either of us artists, but maybe after a couple glasses of wine? Such a fun date night idea that I look forward to having. Pick your painting, sign up in advance and create a piece of art… or at least have a good laugh with your loved one- here are some local spots to sip and paint: Painting with a Twist & Wine & Canvas.

Axe Throwing

Did that peak your interest? Maybe this Valentine’s Day you need to get out some anger, kidding. This was actually a lot of fun to do with a group of friends, and I surprisingly was pretty decent… Thomas better watch out! Check out this up and coming date night out idea. Local places include: FlannelJaxs and Target Axe Throwing
